Claim Business Intelligence and Analytics Business Analytic Lead Senior Director, Claim Business Analytics Job ID: 788723 Hartford Overall Purpose: This position is for a Senior Director - Business Analytics leading a team to develop foundational and intermediate analytics for Claim. The ideal candidate will have a solid insurance product background combined with strong analytical skills. The role requires close collaboration with Business Intelligence colleagues, Claim Research, and the Claim management team to formulate business questions and informational needs. Foundational and intermediate analytics focus on defining metrics required to manage and monitor business outcomes. Analyzing business tends and the interrelationships among metrics are also included with the scope of this work. Business analytics that are developed and need to be repeatable will be transitioned to an Information Delivery team for production implementation. The position will lead a business analytical team developing business hypothesis and determining the analytical approaches to answering these business questions through fact based insights and conclusions and will be responsible for a team of 8 individuals required to support Claim regulatory and ad hoc requests for reports and basic analysis. Background: Travelers Claim consists of more than 13,000 skilled professionals devoted to managing claims made against the policies we write. Our diverse population includes front-line claim professionals, attorneys, investigative specialists, engineers, accountants, system specialists and associated training, management and support personnel. Each year, Claim handles more than one million loss notices and pays out more than 14 billion dollars to our policyholders and third-party claimants. Claim is organized both geographically and according to broad coverage types: auto (liability and damage), property, general liability, workers compensation and specialty coverage. The Business Intelligence and Analytics organization within Claim is responsible for developing the disciplines required to manage Claim data as an enterprise asset, transform this data into information and insight that enables us to understand and improve business performance and to lead business change to sustain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The Business Intelligence and Analytics organization can be organized into 5 major functions: 1. Account Services – The breath and diversity of the Claim Business intelligence products and services makes it necessary to have a single point of contact (line lead role) for our customers. The role of the line lead is to understand the customer’s business strategy, consult in the development of business intelligence solutions and manage client demand and delivery expectations. The line lead also helps in driving adoption of business intelligence capabilities across the customers they serve. In additional to the line lead role, there are a number of ad hoc information and regulatory requests. There is a team of ad hoc and regulatory analysts within Account Services who are responsible for responding to these requests. Claim Business Intelligence and Analytics Business Analytic Lead 2. Business Analytics – There are business questions or hypothesis specific to business outcomes or business results. Members of the Business Analytic team utilize claim data and apply foundational or intermediate analytical techniques to answer these business questions. Analyzing business trends, developing business metrics, performing business driver analysis and regression analysis are examples of the types of analytics performed. This type of Business Analytics is often called "project analytics" because the duration of these initiatives tends to be 2 – 6 weeks and have a very finite scope. 3. Claim Research – This team is responsible for using advanced analytic and statistical techniques to develop predictive models and to understand causal relationships to specific outcomes. Research projects include; claim process optimization, claim performance optimization and capacity modeling. 4. Data Management – This team is responsible for implementing the disciplines required to manage the Claim information asset. Included within the scope of these responsibilities are data governance, data documentation, data stewardship, data quality and data certification. 5. Information Delivery – This team is responsible for implementing business intelligence reports and analytics into the Claim production environments. These capabilities are deemed to be repeatable analytics and required an implementation discipline to ensure predictable performance and optimized efficiency. These analytics originate from Business Analytics or Claim Research teams. The Information Delivery team works very closely with Claim IT and our off shore sourcing partners to implement these repeatable analytics into production. Specific Job Responsibilities of Sr. Director, Business Analytics: Develop Claim business analytics for the purpose of providing insight to business performance and quantify value of Claim processes and services. This includes basic analysis around mix changes and identifying relationships between variables which may require more in-depth analysis. Analyze business metrics and the interrelationship among metrics to understand business drivers and the impact of these interrelations on business outcomes. Consult with business partners on issues requiring analysis of Claim processes and impact on results. This will include interaction ranging from training sessions, meeting facilitation, hypothesis generation and joint analysis of results. Communicate insights and findings with appropriate context to a broad array of customers and stakeholders. This can include Claim professionals from front line handlers through the senior leadership team and business partners from Product and Pricing Analysts to Finance team members at a variety of levels. Interaction across the organization includes Claim, Product, Pricing, Actuarial, IT, Finance, Underwriting, Home Office, and Field Offices. Participate in and take responsibility for business analytic projects including overall design, analytical approach, mathematical calculations and technical implementation. Collaborate with Claim Research to identify and refer business problems requiring application of advanced analytics and predictive modeling techniques. Claim Business Intelligence and Analytics Business Analytic Lead Provide thought leadership in the Business Intelligence space within Claim and Travelers. Collaborate across departmental boundaries to ensure that information and business analytics are maximized and integrated into the Claim Information Advantage. Mentor staff and provide the management oversight for analytical best practices, quantitative techniques and the use of standard computing programming techniques.
