SUMMARY: The Claim Center General Counsel (CCGC) acts as the primary legal contact within the Travelers Claim Center providing comprehensive, coordinated, pro-active, high-quality and timely counsel to the Claim Center management and staff at all levels. The CCGC will coordinate and collaborate effectively with all areas within Claim Legal to deliver seamless legal services to the Claim Center clients. PRIMARY DUTIES: The CCGC will provide coordinated legal advice and support to Travelers Claim Center management and staff on a variety of legal issues, including but not limited to insurance coverage, claim handling practices, claim initiatives, compliance, regulatory inquiries, contracts and emerging trends. The areas of legal work will include: preparing written legal coverage opinions; providing general legal advice; managing litigation brought by or against Travelers which does not involve extra-contractual exposure; providing counsel and coordination on regulatory inquiries, including market conduct examinations; providing direction and counsel on compliance issues; assisting in developing Claim Center policies and procedures; serving on and supporting Claim Center committees such as suit committee meetings; and performing research. In addition, the CCGC will collaborate with Underwriting and other business units within Travelers on these issues where appropriate. EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY: JD degree or LLM CERTIFICATES/DEGREES: Admitted to the Bar COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Strong and persuasive written, oral and presentation skills COMPUTER SKILLS: Strong PC skills, including WORD and EXCEL OTHER: ˇ *Minimum of 5 to 7 years of experience. In-house experience preferred. ˇ *Expertise and experience with providing coverage advice and litigation management of coverage litigation. ˇ *Strong organization and time management skills. ˇ *Ability to work independently, but in a collaborative manner with many other areas. ˇ *Strong knowledge of the property/casualty insurance business, products and services. ˇ *Good judgment and strong problem solving skills. ˇ *Ability to develop productive relationships within the Claim Center and with other business and legal areas within Travelers.
