| Public Affairs Veteran Named Chief Executive Officer of WomenHeart Lisa M. Tate, Formerly of NACHRI, Takes on New, Women-Focused Challenge WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WomenHeart: the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease today announced the appointment of Lisa M. Tate as the organization’s new CEO. Tate brings more than two decades of experience in health advocacy, including 14 years as Vice President, Public Affairs for the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI), a Washington-based association focused on children’s health care. WomenHeart is the only national patient advocacy organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life and health care for the eight million women living with heart disease. “I am thrilled to be joining WomenHeart at this time of tremendous opportunity,” said Tate. “The need to support and empower the eight million women living with heart disease has never been greater and the chance to make a difference at the national level has never been more favorable.” Tate continues, “WomenHeart will continue to provide support and education to all women living with heart disease. I will be working to give voice to this constituency on critical policy initiatives, like the ‘Heart for Women’ Act, the first comprehensive legislation to specifically address heart disease in women, currently under review in the House and Senate.” Tate’s previous achievements at NACHRI include initiatives in communications, advocacy, community health improvement and fundraising. She shaped many successful grassroots programs, as well as the first national communications campaign promoting the value of children’s hospitals. Tate also led multi-faceted advocacy campaigns culminating in legislation providing $2 billion in federal funding to children’s hospitals and was a finalist in the 2006 Non-Profit PR Awards for the organization’s creation and media coverage of a Family Advocacy Day. “We look forward to utilizing Lisa’s strong background in advocacy and building effective programs to ensure every woman with heart disease receives accurate diagnosis and proper treatment and gets the support they need,” said Kathy Kasten, President of the Board, WomenHeart. “Our aim is to catapult our growth beyond our current 16,000 members and grow our network of support groups so that we reach and benefit more women and transform WomenHeart into an effective advocacy force for improving diagnosis and treatment of all.” Tate assumed her role as CEO of WomenHeart on July 5, 2007. Before joining NACHRI in 1993, Tate spent six years as Public Affairs Manager for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). In that time, she created a public affairs communication function for the Washington office and co-founded and chaired the Coalition for America’s Children, the first national coalition of 400 organizations focusing on non-partisan voter education on children’s issues. Tate currently serves on the Board of the Public Affairs Council, the national membership organization for public affairs professionals.
