Phoenix, Arizona - March 19, 2007 - Russell M. Jackson has joined Safeway Inc. as Senior Vice President, Human Resources. Jackson is the first African American to hold this position at Safeway, one of the largest food and drug retailers in North America. Jackson comes to Safeway after spending 27 years at PG&E Corporation, where he served as Senior Vice President, Human Resources. At Safeway, Jackson will be responsible for all aspects of Human Resources function, including employee relations, compensation, training, leadership development, recruiting, health and wellness and prevention programs. Jackson graduated from San Jose State University. He also has an MBA from St. Mary’s College and a master’s degree in Human Resources and Organizational Development from the University of San Francisco, along with a certificate in Human Resources Management from the University of California at Berkeley.
