ACLU: The ACLU has actively supported the struggle for lesbian and gay civil rights since the 1960s and in 1986, it established its national Lesbian and Gay Rights Project.

Gay and Lesbian Activists Alliance of Washington, DC: The nation's oldest continuously active gay and lesbian civil rights organization.

Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD): GLAAD is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

Gay & Lesbian Victory Fund: The Victory Fund is the nation's largest LGBT political action committee and the only national organization dedicated to increasing the number of openly LGBT elected officials at all levels of government. Since 1991, the Victory Fund and its national donor network have helped hundreds of openly LGBT candidates win election to local, state and federal offices.

National Center for Lesbian Rights: NCLR is a national legal resource center with a primary commitment to advancing the rights and safety of lesbians and their families through a program of litigation, public policy advocacy, free legal advice and counseling, and public education.
